Connecting Fulfil
Packwork needs access to your Fulfil workspace to read shipments and run Flow actions. There are two ways to give it that access:
- Approve Packwork in Fulfil (OAuth). Someone with the right permissions in Fulfil approves Packwork once, and you’re done. This is the way we recommend.
- Paste a personal access token. You create a token in Fulfil and paste it into Packwork. This still works, but you’re the one keeping track of the token.
We’re rolling OAuth out store by store, and moving everyone on a personal access token over to it in the coming months. If your Packwork settings don’t show an option to approve Packwork in Fulfil yet, email support@codeture.nl and we’ll turn it on for your store.
Who should approve Packwork
The person who approves Packwork needs these two permission sets in Fulfil:
- Sales / Orders / Sales orders / Manage
- Shipments / Fulfilment / Inventory & shipping (Legacy) / Allow
If they’re missing one, connecting fails, or the Flow actions that depend on it fail with a permission error later. A Fulfil admin usually has both. If you’re not sure, check the user in Fulfil before you start.
Connect with OAuth
- In Packwork, open Settings. On a new install, the Fulfil step of the setup does the same thing.
- Click Connect, or Switch to OAuth if you’re on a personal access token today.
- Enter your Fulfil workspace: the
yourcompanyinyourcompany.fulfil.io. Pasting the full address works too. - Click Continue to Fulfil. You leave Shopify for a moment.
- Log in to Fulfil if you need to, and approve Packwork.
- Fulfil sends you back to Packwork. The Fulfil card in Settings now says Connected through OAuth.
Don’t change the permissions on Fulfil’s approval screen. Packwork needs all of them, and if one is missing it won’t finish connecting. You’ll see a message naming what’s missing, and you can start again from Settings.
Switching from a personal access token
Your personal access token keeps working until the switch is complete, so nothing breaks if you stop halfway. Once you’ve approved Packwork, it removes the token from its settings and stops using it. You can then delete the token in Fulfil.
When to reconnect
Once you’re connected, you don’t need to do anything. Reconnect when:
- Packwork needs more access. When a new feature needs a permission Packwork didn’t ask for before, we’ll email you and say so in the changelog.
- Flow actions start failing with permission errors while they worked before.
How to reconnect
Approving Packwork adds a user to your Fulfil workspace, named after the app. That user holds the access Packwork asked for when you approved it, so new access goes there first:
- In Fulfil, open your users and find the Packwork user.
- Make sure it has both permission sets listed under Who should approve Packwork, plus anything new we’ve asked for.
- In Packwork, open Settings and click Reconnect on the Fulfil card.
- Approve Packwork in Fulfil again.
Clicking Reconnect without updating the Packwork user first won’t pick up new permissions.
If connecting fails
Packwork shows what went wrong and sends you back to Settings to try again.
- Fulfil didn’t give Packwork access. The approval was declined, or the person approving can’t access everything Packwork uses. Ask a Fulfil admin to try.
- Fulfil didn’t grant access to … One of the permissions was removed on the approval screen. Start again and leave them as they are.
- This link has expired. The approval took longer than ten minutes. Start again from Settings.
- Something went wrong while talking to Fulfil. Try again. If it keeps happening, email support@codeture.nl.
Using a personal access token
If OAuth isn’t on for your store yet, open Settings in Packwork and click Connect. Enter your Fulfil workspace and a personal access token. The token needs the same access as the person approving Packwork above: sales orders and shipments.
